Hubert Pehamberger

Hubert Pehamberger was born in 1951 in Vienna. He studied medicine at the University of Vienna and graduated with an M. D. degree in 1975. After one year of work in a municipal hospital he began a specialized training in dermatology at the Vienna University Clinic of Dermatology, which he completed in 1981. During this period he also took part in a research project at the Division of Tumor Biology of the Vienna University Department of Immunology.

He extended his research skills during a one year fellowship at the Immunology Branch of the NIH National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD, USA. After his return to Vienna he worked at the University Clinic of Dermatology, where he became associate professor in 1985. Hubert Pehamberger is now professor of dermatology and venerology and deputy head of the Division of General Dermatology. Besides his university occupation he is director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Clinical Experimental Oncology in Vienna.

The focus of Professor Pehamberger's research interests is the treatment and therapy of melanoma. His research group has been working on advancements of diagnostic methods such as digital epiluminescence microscopy, the development of new chemotherapeutic drugs, but also on novel concepts of cancer treatment such as tumor vaccines. Professor Pehamberger will supervise the melanoma vaccine project that BioLife Science is about to start.
